Grad Celebration Photos in Leaside | Toronto Family Photographer

Some sessions are quiet and slow. This one was neither — and that was exactly the point. This family gathered from out of town to celebrate their oldest son's high school graduation, and with cousins, aunts, uncles, and both sets of grandparents all in one place, the afternoon had a different kind of energy from the start.

We kicked things off in one of Leaside's alley mural spots on the walk over to Tim Hortons — because what's a celebration without a snack run? The graffiti backdrop gave everything a burst of colour and a bit of grit, and it wasn't long before someone broke out a breakdancing move to get the kids laughing. Grandparents cheering, cousins losing it, somebody's uncle mid-shimmy — that's the kind of chaos that makes for the best photos.

From there we moved to the neighbourhood playground, where the whole extended family climbed onto the jungle gym for a group shot that's part portrait, part family tree. Even grandma got in on the climbing action! And the littlest cousins tucked into the ropes below, everyone finding their spot — it took some negotiating, but the result is one nobody in this family will forget.

We wrapped the day with a photo scavenger hunt, dreamt up by one of the cousins to keep the younger kids moving and the whole group involved. Somewhere between a flexed bicep, a slice of cake piped with a "Congrats, Grad!" message, and a sea of siblings and cousins piled onto a garden bench, this stopped being a photoshoot and just became an afternoon with family — which is exactly how we like it.

Huge congratulations to this year's grad on this milestone, and thank you to this wonderful family for including me in the celebration.
