A Fall Afternoon at Sunnyside Pavilion | Toronto Documentary Family Photography

There’s something fun about returning to photograph a family for the second time—seeing how the kids have grown, how their energy has changed, and how their story continues to unfold. This late-afternoon family photo session at Sunnyside Pavilion was exactly that: a perfect fall day along Toronto’s waterfront, full of movement, laughter, and the kind of unscripted moments that make documentary family photography so meaningful.

We began near Sunnyside, walking along the water towards Palais Royale. The boys, now one and four, led the charge with boundless energy—curious, playful, and always on the move. Their oldest took some time to ride his bike before hopping off to enjoy the swings, while his younger brother delighted in exploring every new corner we passed.

The beach was a natural pause point, where the whole family played in the sand together. Later, we found an empty splash pad, the perfect wide-open stage for chasing each other and rolling a bright red ball back and forth. Along the boardwalk, the kids darted after birds while their parents followed behind.

Sessions like this are what I love most as a Toronto Family Photographer. There were no stiff poses, no need for perfection—just a family embracing the season, their children’s joy, and the chance to spend an afternoon together by the lake. From the small gestures of holding hands to chasing birds across the sand, every moment was marked with a feeling of being present.

As the sun dipped lower, we wrapped up back at Sunnyside Pavilion, the warm light spilling across the boardwalk and water. It was a beautiful reminder that family life is always moving, always changing, and worth documenting just as it is.

At Black Vine Photography, my goal is to create photographs that feel like memory—authentic, emotional, and true to your family’s story. This Sunnyside Pavilion session was a celebration of that philosophy: playful, tender, and full of life.
