Sun-Soaked Family Moments at Home in Leaside: A Family Photo Session

Some sessions are high-energy. Some are heartwarming. And some—like this one—are just a beautiful mix of both, with a little summer sweat thrown in for good measure.

On a scorching Sunday morning in Toronto, I joined this vibrant family of four (plus one very sweet dog) for a documentary-style family photography session that stayed close to home—literally. The original plan was to head out to Evergreen Brickworks after some photos at the house, but with the heat hovering somewhere between oven and volcano, we decided to keep the adventure indoors (and in the shade).

When I arrived, the boys—aged 4 and 7—were already deep into weekend mode, lounging in the living room with their dad. Their little brother took it upon himself to water the deck plants with a bowl full of water. Resourceful. Messy. Perfect.

Once mom came downstairs, the energy picked up even more. The boys wrestled on the couch, then invited the whole family (dog included) down to their mini basement hockey rink for a full game of stick-handling chaos. It was one of those moments that makes me grateful for documentary family photography—unposed, unfiltered, and a joy to shoot!

Next, we explored the kids’ rooms upstairs, before ending up in the parents’ bedroom for an all-out, shirts-off wrestling match. No injuries—just a whole lot of laughter.

Outside, we squeezed in some backyard time: swings, soccer, and some snuggly posed moments with their beloved dog, who's clearly the calmest member of the team. After a break for frozen yogurt and water on the deck, the whole crew embarked on a family-sized Connect Four showdown.

We wrapped up with photos on the front steps and a cool-down on the couch—Disney movie upstairs with mom and little bro, PS5 in the basement man cave with dad and the oldest. Because honestly, that’s what Sundays are made for.

This session was a snapshot of real family life—hot, happy, and full of love. If you're looking for Toronto family photography that captures your family's true rhythm—whether it's high-energy hockey, quiet movie time, or a little bit of both—I’d love to help tell your story.
