Backyard Fun and Poolside Memories: A Multi-Generational Family Photo Session
Some of the best sessions happen when families decide to just be together — no agenda, no pressure, just real moments as they unfold.
This one took place at the family home on a warm, sunny evening. A Christmas gift finally put to good use, it brought together three generations for a laid-back afternoon full of connection. With two sets of parents, five energetic boys ranging from little to teen, and grandparents looking on with pride, it was a house full of love, laughter, and lively energy.
We spent most of the session in the backyard, where the pool quickly became the center of attention. Water guns came out, kids launched themselves into the deep end, and parents joined the fun while the grandparents watched from poolside chairs. Snacks helped tide everyone over until the big family BBQ, and the trampoline made for a perfect break between swim sessions.
Inside, the kids snuck in a few rounds of video games while dinner sizzled outside. In between all the action, we made time for a few traditional family portraits on the front steps — a chance to capture everyone together before diving back into the chaos.
We ended the evening with a round of "Happy Birthday" for several family members celebrating that week — the perfect finish to a session full of genuine connection and joy.
This shoot was a great reminder that the most meaningful photos don’t happen in perfect poses — they happen in the middle of the splash, the snack break, the belly laugh. Grateful to have spent the evening with this wonderful, multigenerational crew.
