A Sunday morning at Home Decorating the Tree | Roncesvalles Family Photo Session
Some moments don’t need to be created — they’re already there, waiting to be noticed.
This Documentary Family Session took place on a quiet Sunday morning in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood, inside the family’s home. No schedules to rush, no plans beyond the simple joy of being together. Just mom, dad, and their two young boys, fresh from breakfast, still in their pyjamas, ready to decorate the Christmas tree.
The boys took their time. Ornaments were carefully chosen, stories were shared, and small hands reached up again and again to place something meaningful on the branches. Some decorations carried history — reminders of earlier years, of traditions passed down, of moments worth remembering. Others were simply exciting because they sparkled or made noise. All of it mattered.
Nothing here was posed or staged. There were no instructions, no interruptions. I photographed the moments as they unfolded naturally — the quiet concentration, the laughter, the pauses, the closeness that comes from slowing down and doing something together.
This is what documentary family photography looks like. A familiar activity, transformed into something lasting. An ordinary morning, preserved with care so it can be remembered and revisited years from now.
