Candid, creative portraits for couples who value presence over poses.

I'm Andrew Black — a Toronto portrait photographer.
My role is simple: to hold space for you to be yourselves. No pressure, no contrived posing — just real connection. Every couple is different, and your photos should be too. That’s why I approach each session as a chance to create something one-of-a-kind — art made just for you.
Connection-
meet Creativity.
BEHIND THE LENS
Meet Andrew — the eye behind Black Vine Photography.
Before I became a full-time photographer, I was the guy hauling a camera on every trip — chasing landscapes and documenting the big moments. I’ve been that guy for over 25 years.
In 2023, I turned that lifelong obsession into Black Vine Photography — a business built not on trendy poses or presets, but on documenting people as they are, with creative intention.
I’ve trained with — and continue to be inspired by — some of the best in the field: Sam Hurd, Jason Vinson, and Two Mann Studios. Each has shaped how I see, how I shoot, and how I tell a story.
What excites me most today is the full creative process: finding the best light, composing with purpose, and editing with care to craft images that feel a little mysterious — the kind that make you stop and wonder how they were made. I aim to create that magic in-camera, not in Photoshop — so what we make together is honest, spontaneous, and unmistakably yours.
Whether it’s your wedding, engagement, elopement, or just a beautiful, ordinary day, I bring calm direction, curious eyes, and a deep respect for your story. Let’s make something lasting.

FAQs

In a word? Documentary.
Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot — it’s a once-in-a-lifetime celebration with your favourite people. I won’t direct your day or pull you away for endless portraits. Instead, I’ll blend into the background and quietly capture the real stuff: the laughs, the hugs, the ugly cries, the party.
We’ll get beautiful, artistic portraits during your engagement session (and a few quick ones on the day-of if you'd like) — but my goal is for you to actually live your wedding day, not spend it with your photographer.
This way, you get a collection of honest, emotional images that you’ll want to share — now and for decades to come.

I’m new to photographing weddings — but not new to photography.
I’ve been a full-time professional photographer for years, specializing in documentary-style family and portrait work. That means I know how to anticipate emotion, work with natural light, and stay calm under pressure (a wedding-day essential).
While I don’t have decades of wedding experience, I bring a fresh perspective, creative intention, and genuine care to every couple I work with. I’m currently booking a limited number of small weddings and elopements to give each one my full attention — and to be honest, now’s a great time to book (before I get too booked up 😉).

Not at all. Most people are! I’ll give just enough direction to help you relax — no awkward posing or cheesy prompts. Just be yourselves, and I’ll take care of the rest.
-
Whatever makes you feel like you. I’ll send over a wardrobe guide to help — but there’s no pressure. Pops of colour and layered textures always look great.

Wherever feels right. That could be your neighbourhood, your home, a favourite café or trail — or anywhere else that feels like part of your story.
I can’t wait to connect and work with you.
